When you decide to launch a webinar with 20 minutes notice and no script, you miss some shit.

Who knew.

Made a quick video to fill in the gaps I forgot to cover + some other stuff I've learned since then.

If you're too busy to listen to me ramble for an hour (and you should be), my friend Greg sent me this:

Sorry mate was too lazy to watch so spent probably an equal length of time getting audio fed to OpenAI Whisper 😂

Certainly, here's a more in-depth summary of the actionable points from the transcript:

1. Conduct a thorough backlink analysis:

  • Use multiple tools like Ahrefs, Majestic, and SEMRush to get a comprehensive view of your site's backlink profile.
  • Pay attention to the number of referring domains, total backlinks, and the distribution of link strength (e.g., Domain Rating or Trust Flow).
  • Identify patterns of low-quality, spammy links such as those with low traffic, keyword-rich anchor text, image links, and a high percentage of nofollow links.

2. Export and filter backlinks:

  • Export as many relevant backlinks as possible from each tool, focusing on those exhibiting spammy characteristics.
  • Apply filters to identify links from low-DR domains, those with suspiciously keyword-rich anchor text, image links, and nofollow links.
  • Manually review the exported links, keeping potentially valuable ones and marking the rest for disavowal.

3. Create and submit a disavow file:

  • Compile all the spammy, low-quality links into a properly formatted disavow file.
  • Upload the disavow file to Google Search Console.
  • Wait for 48 to 72 hours to allow Google to process the disavow file.

4. Force Google to recrawl disavowed links:

  • Use a link crawler tool like Collinkry or Link Processor to prompt Google to recrawl the disavowed links.
  • Submit your disavow file or list of links to these tools and run the process 3-4 times over a period of a few days.
  • This helps ensure that Google acknowledges the disavowed links and adjusts its assessment of your site's link profile.

5. Optimize internal linking:

  • Review your site's internal linking structure and identify instances of exact match or aggressive keyword-rich anchor text.
  • Update these internal links to use more natural, conversational, and contextually relevant anchor text.
  • Aim for a balance between keyword relevance and readability, avoiding an over-optimized internal linking structure.

6. Resubmit updated pages to Search Console:

  • After updating your internal linking, resubmit the modified pages to Google Search Console.
  • This prompts Google to recrawl and reindex these pages, taking into account the changes in your internal link signals.

7. Monitor your site's recovery:

  • Keep a close eye on your site's rankings, organic traffic, and overall performance in the weeks following the disavow and internal linking optimization process.
  • If recovery is slow or not happening, consider disavowing additional links or building high-quality links to counteract the impact of the spammy ones.

8. Maintain a healthy link profile:

  • Regularly monitor your site's backlink profile to identify and address any new or emerging patterns of low-quality, spammy links.
  • Focus on building high-quality, relevant links from authoritative sources to maintain a robust and healthy link profile.
  • Consider using link monitoring tools or services to alert you to new links and help you stay on top of your link profile's health.

The key to successful recovery lies in being thorough and aggressive in identifying and disavowing low-quality links, prompting Google to recrawl and reassess your link profile, and ensuring that your internal linking structure is optimized and not over-aggressive.

By coupling these actions with ongoing link profile maintenance and high-quality link acquisition, you can improve your site's resilience to future algorithm updates and maintain strong organic search performance.

Not going to lie, that's a pretty solid game plan lol.

That's it, that's all I got.

Getting caught up on link orders and training new people, I hope to turn the consulting option back on next week so if you've requested it, fingers crossed.

Cheers,

Grind

P.S. This mail app only lets me drop 3 links so shameless self promotion will have to wait for the next email.

Or look for a previous one if you need links that are producing great results right now.

Or throw clients in front of the domain that sent you this email.

Worst funnel ever lol. Went for value add > revenue this round.
